The sentence is the basic building block of all writing, and yet how often do we notice the individual sentence outside of its larger context? In this micro workshop, we will look at the myriad ways of constructing a single sentence. We will look at exemplary sentences, non-exemplary sentences, and discuss what makes one sentence more interesting than another. We will look at various writers’ styles, sentence lengths, and choices of syntax. Then, using the skills we’ve developed, we will each take a sample sentence and turn it into something special: the sentence only you could have written.
